Ulfix Sugar Free Oral Suspension 200ml

✔️ Dosage & Administration of Ulfix Sugar Free Oral Suspension

For Duodenal ulcer, Gastric ulcer, and Chronic gastritis:

Adults:

• 2 g twice daily (morning and bedtime) OR
• 1 g four times daily (1 hour before meals and at bedtime)

Maximum daily dose: 8 g

Treatment may last up to 12 weeks in resistant cases.

Pediatric Use:

• Not recommended for children under 14 years due to a lack of safety data.

Elderly Patients:

• No specific dosage adjustments are required, but the lowest effective dose should be used.

For Prophylaxis of Stress Ulceration (Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage):

Adults: 1 g orally or via a nasogastric tube 4 to 6 times daily.

• If administered through a nasogastric tube, flush with 10 ml water after each dose to prevent clogging.
• Treatment should not exceed 14 days unless necessary.

Administration Notes:

• Take on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before meals).
• Avoid antacids within 30 minutes of taking Ulfix.

✔️ Side Effects of Ulfix Sugar Free Oral Suspension

• Headache (3.4%)
• Nausea (2.3%)
• Abdominal pain (2.3%)
• Constipation (1.1%)
• Diarrhea (1.1%)
• Urticaria (1.1%)

Bezoar formation (mostly in critically ill patients with delayed gastric emptying or enteral feeding).

Hyperglycemia in diabetic patients.

✔️ Overdose Effects

• Symptoms: Generally mild, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting.
• Animal studies: No lethal dose found, suggesting minimal risk.

✔️ Ulfix may reduce the bioavailability of certain medications, including:

• Fluoroquinolones (Ciprofloxacin, Norfloxacin), Tetracycline, Ketoconazole
• Digoxin, Warfarin, Phenytoin, Theophylline, Levothyroxine, Quinidine, H2 antagonists
• Sulpiride

Recommendations:

• Separate Ulfix and these drugs by at least 2 hours to prevent reduced absorption.
• Avoid co-administration with citrate preparations, as this can increase blood aluminum levels.
• Separate enteral feeding and Ulfix administration by 1 hour to prevent bezoar formation.

✔️ Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Sucralfate.

✔️ Use in Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Safety is not established. Use only if necessary.
• Lactation: Unknown if excreted in breast milk; use with caution.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in renal impairment due to the risk of aluminum accumulation, which may cause:
• Osteodystrophy, osteomalacia, encephalopathy, and anemia.
• Regular monitoring of aluminium, phosphate, calcium, and alkaline phosphatase is recommended.
• Not recommended for dialysis patients due to aluminium toxicity risk.
• Bezoar formation risk in severely ill patients (e.g., ICU, post-surgery, or those on enteral feeding).
• Driving & Machinery Use: Avoid if experiencing dizziness or drowsiness.

Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C in a dry place. Protect from moisture.
